Do Men Still Wear Undershirts Under Dress Shirts?
You can’t see undershirts under most men’s dress shirts, even when a button or two is undone, so you may wonder whether men still wear undershirts under collar dress shirts. Men sometimes wear an undershirt and sometimes don’t. Whether you should wear one depends on the weather, the button down shirt, and your personal preferences. Why Do Men Wear Undershirts The benefits of wearing an undershirt haven’t changed much through the years. However, undershirts have gotten better at doing what they're made for. Protect your dress shirts. Undershirts provide a layer of protection between your skin and your button-down collar shirts. Less friction keeps the fabric smoother for longer. Dirt and oils from your skin won’t rub off on your dress shirt, which keeps it from becoming discolored. Keep sweat from showing. Undershirts can catch sweat and help it evaporate before it soaks into your dress shirt and leaves ugly stains. Create a smoother profile. Undershirts help your dress shirt to lay more smoothly against your skin, which creates a sleeker, more flattering profile. Hide nipples. If you are wearing a white shirt, the contrast between your nipples and skin may be visible, which isn’t considered to be work-appropriate. Undershirts solve this problem seen a lot on light-colored solid dress shirts. Reasons Not to Wear an Undershirt Despite all of the great benefits of undershirts, there are some reasons not to wear them. Dress shirts have progressed a lot, and they can do some of the work that undershirts used to do. Here are some reasons that you may not want to wear an undershirt: They can be hotter. Even if an undershirt has cooling technology and is sweat-wicking, it is still another layer of clothing, which can make a difference in a very hot climate. Choosing a great men’s dress shirt with moisture-wicking technology can be a good alternative to wearing an undershirt. It’s something else to wear. Sometimes, all you need to do to get ready in the morning is pull a shirt and pants on and head out the door. An undershirt is one more thing to wear, keep tucked in, and otherwise deal with. Sold out Sold out Sold out How You Wear Your Undershirt Matters Small differences in how you wear your undershirt can make a huge difference in how it looks. You may be surprised by how many more men wear an undershirt than you realize. When the undershirt is worn correctly, you won't even know that it's there. How you wear your undershirt determines whether the effect is sloppy or neat. Done properly, wearing an undershirt makes your dress shirt lay more smoothly and keeps it nicer for longer. When worn improperly, an undershirt can make you look like you're not sure how to dress. Choose the Right Neckline for How You Wear Your Dress ShirtIf you want to be able to unbutton a couple of buttons on your dress shirt and loosen your tie throughout the day, make sure to choose a V-neck undershirt that won’t be visible. If you always wear your tie close at your neck, you can wear a crew-neck undershirt to protect the shirt better. Match Your Undershirt to Your Skin ToneYour goal is to make your undershirt invisible. If your undershirt contrasts with your skin tone, that contrast may be visible through your shirt, especially if you wear a light-colored shirt. Choose an undershirt that is as close to your skin tone as possible, especially if you’ll be wearing solid light-colored dress shirts that avoid popular patterns like plaid, herringbone, gingham, or windowpane. A Slim FitAn undershirt should fit you snugly. Many men choose undershirts that fit them more like T-shirts, but this is a mistake. Any extra fabric will bunch, especially around your waist, making your dress shirt look messy and bulky. Pick a slim-fit undershirt with a sleek profile that won’t show. StretchA little bit of stretch in your undershirt makes it much more comfortable to wear a shirt that needs to fit as tightly as an undershirt should. This is especially important if you have bigger arms. The sleeves will feel uncomfortably tight otherwise. Stay Tucked and Anti-RideIf your undershirt becomes untucked, your dress shirt likely will become untucked as well. Undershirts that stay tucked in well keep your dress shirt tucked in better and keep you from having to retuck as often throughout the day. Sleeves that ride up are uncomfortable and also create an awkward line under your dress shirt sleeves. Sweat-Wicking and Cooling TechnologyOne of the most important roles of an undershirt is to keep you and your dress shirt dry. You want a best seller undershirt with excellent sweat-wicking qualities to keep you comfortable and dry and avoid ugly sweat stains when you aren't wearing a blazer. Additional technology for cooling is an added benefit. Can You Wear T-Shirts as Undershirts? If you already have a closet full of solid T-shirts that are fairly close to your skin tone, you may wonder whether you can just save yourself some money and effort and wear a T-shirt under your dress shirt. After all, you can’t see the undershirt anyway, so why does it matter? T-shirts are very different from undershirts for a number of reasons: Fit. T-shirts generally have longer sleeves and a looser fit than undershirts. This means that they tend to bunch more under your dress shirt. Profile. T-shirts often have big, chunkier seams. These seams make them durable for hard work and play, but it also creates a visible bulge under your dress shirt that can create wrinkles, unless you have non-iron or wrinkle free cotton dress shirts instead of materials like twill, poplin, dobby, or supima cotton. Fabric. Short sleeve shirts are generally heavier and warmer than undershirts, which makes them less comfortable under your dress shirts. Choose a Great Undershirt When You Need One You may not always choose to wear an undershirt, but when you do, you want an undershirt that fits you great and comes at a reasonable price. Twillory makes menswear undershirts that are cool, soft, comfortable, and look awesome under your dress shirts no matter if you're going business casual with a casual shirt like short sleeve dress shirt or super formal with a tuxedo shirt with a point collar and french cuffs. Learn moreBoxers vs Briefs?
Undergarments are too often overlooked in men's clothing, but how your undergarments fit and the lines that they create is the foundation for how the rest of your clothes will look. Furthermore, men's underwear makes a big difference in how you feel in your clothes. Here's what you need to know about performance boxer briefs and how they can make a difference in your professional (and everyday) wardrobe. The age-old question of boxers or briefs may not have a straightforward answer. Since boxers came out in the early 1920s, and briefs followed them only about a decade later, men have had to choose between the two styles. The choice has evolved to have connotations outside of practicality. Wearing men's boxer briefs has come to be seen as sleeker, more self-conscious perhaps, and a bit more domestic and stylish. Boxers, on the other hand, are both more comfortable and a little bit less civilized. The truth is, many men will find it more practical to wear boxers sometimes and briefs others. Boxers allow things to stay a little bit cooler, which science has found important for fertility. They are more comfortable for more casual and loose wear. However, boxers tend to be less comfortable and cause ugly lines under your dress pants. You’ll probably choose to wear briefs when you want to look your best and when you’re wearing professional clothes, and boxers at other times. What Are Performance Boxer Briefs To look and feel great in your briefs, shop carefully. Choose quality briefs and you won’t even know you’re wearing them. Performance boxer briefs are your best bet for briefs that check all of your boxes. Ventilation. Ventilation is essential for comfortable men's performance boxer briefs. The last thing that you want is to trap air and moisture in your briefs. Look for ventilation like Twillory’s GentVents to keep the air moving. Sweat-wicking. The fabric of your briefs should constantly wick away moisture, keeping you cool and dry. Moisture-wicking technology is absolutely essential if you want to stay comfortable and odor-free all day. Cooling technology. The best boxer briefs have added cooling technology to keep you as comfortable as possible. Anti-ride-up. Having the waistband of your briefs ride up is uncomfortable, and it's not easy to fix it in a work environment. Make sure that you choose a product that resists riding up. Resistant to wedgies. Nothing is worse than a wedgie in public. Make sure that your briefs inseam doesn't bunch up into wedgies when you walk or sit. Performance fabric. This fabric has some stretch to it, as well as being made of smooth, quality cotton, to give you freedom of movement to avoid dreaded chafing. Supportive. You want to look great in your pants, so choose briefs that give you excellent support. Soft. You need the softest, smoothest fabric against your skin, so settle for nothing less and consider a tag-free cotton boxer brief. Easy to care for. Choose cotton stretch boxer briefs that are machine wash. You don't want to have to go through any extra effort to take care of your undergarments, so be sure to check the product details for laundry instructions. Sold out Sold out Sold out Sold out Can You Wear Performance Briefs Every Day? Performance briefs are comfortable enough for you to wear every day throughout your workday. You’ll probably find yourself wearing them when you want to look your best in your pants for social occasions as well. That said, it’s best to give yourself a break from wearing briefs at the end of the day and relaxing around the house. Performance briefs are much cooler than other briefs, but it's still better to give yourself some time not wearing briefs when possible. When Is It Important to Wear Briefs? Dress pants. Wearing briefs is more important when you’re wearing dress pants, which tend to fit more tightly and have smoother lines. Boxers can be easily visible under dress pants. Tight pants. Briefs are also important when you’re wearing other kinds of tight pants. If you like a tight fit in your jeans, you may want to wear briefs under them. Does It Matter If You Fold Your Underwear? Quality briefs have a bit of stretch in the material, which makes it less important that you fold them to avoid wrinkles. However, very deep wrinkles may stay in the fabric when you put the briefs on, creating a visible line under your pants and a crease against your skin. It’s best to fold briefs when they come out of the dryer. What Color Briefs Should I Buy? Most men wear primarily dark-colored pants, so it doesn’t matter much what color boxer briefs you choose. However, if you’ll be wearing light-colored pants, it’s wise to choose briefs closest to your skin tone. That way, you won’t be able to see the line of the briefs against your skin. What Are the Best Performance Boxer Briefs? The best performance boxer briefs are comfortable, breathable, and cool. Twillory offers great, high-quality performance boxer briefs at a very reasonable price with five-star customer reviews. They’re easy to take care of and make your dress pants look great. You’ll love how they feel, or rather, how you can’t feel them. Learn moreHow to Keep Dress Shirts Wrinkle-Free
It can be challenging to look good while meeting all of the demands of your busy life. Keeping your dress shirt free from wrinkles is just one more thing to worry about. If you make the right decisions about purchasing a dress shirt and stick to a care routine, wrinkle-free shirts will become almost effortless. Choose the Right Shirts Not all dress shirts are created equally. Choosing a shirt designed to be resistant to wrinkles can save you a lot of work. These shirts go from washer, to drier, to hanger, to wear without you having to worry about ironing. The best wrinkle-free shirts, like these by Twillory, have a proprietary non-iron treatment that leaves dress shirts resistant to wrinkles. Four-way stretch fabric with a bit of spandex makes these best-selling non-iron dress shirts comfortable and soft against your skin. If you would prefer the look and high-quality breathable feel of cotton without worrying about wrinkles, proprietary SafeCotton is wrinkle-resistant but incredibly soft. You also need to make sure that you have the right fit beforehand to decrease the chance of wrinkles. Pay close attention to size guides and decide whether you want a slim fit shirt, a classic fit shirt, a traditional fit shirt, or even a big & tall shirt. Consider the color and pattern of your shirt as well, since some patterns are better at hiding wrinkles than solid dress shirts. We love patterns like gingham, plaid, and herringbone. Pay Attention to the Drying Process If your men's dress shirts can be machine-dried, it can be tempting to put them in the dryer and forget about them until sometime after the dryer has stopped. Don't trust your dryer's wrinkle-prevention with your non-iron shirts. Check your shirts as they are finishing the drying cycle and pull them out when they're still slightly damp. This way, the weight of the clothes will help to pull out wrinkles, and no wrinkles will dry into the clothes. Flatten your clothes on a clean flat surface and smooth wrinkles out with your hands before you fold or hang clothes. 2. Use Wide Hangers If you are like most people, you probably don't have a lot of spare real estate in your closet. You might be tempted to use smaller hangers so that you can fit more clothes. However, this is the wrong idea. Wide hangers mimic how shirts hang as they would on your shoulders, which prevents wrinkles from forming. Choose hangers long enough to reach where the sleeve length begins and wide enough to mimic the width of your shoulders. 3. Hang Instead of Folding and Space Clothes Out Your dress shirts should have room to hang freely in the closet. They should not touch each other. Consider using a cascading hanger system if you don't have enough room in your closet. How to Wear Dress Shirts to Avoid Wrinkling Even if you take great care of your dress shirts while you are washing and storing them, you can easily get them wrinkled on the way to work or during your day. This is especially true if you choose dress shirts that are not made with wrinkle-resistant fabric. Here are some tips for wearing your dress shirts in a way that will avoid getting them wrinkled. Be Careful With Temporary Storage You may take your dress shirt off if you are worried that it will get dirty because you are being active or doing something with your hands. Some men may choose not to wear their dress shirt on a subway or anywhere else it could easily be dirtied. If you aren't wearing your shirt, it should be hanging on a hanger. It can get a little bit awkward if you need to take your shirt off before riding on the subway or to do work outside. Still, it is better to hang your dress shirt from the side of your cubicle or carry a hanger in the subway than to have your shirt become wrinkled when you are trying so hard to keep it clean and looking nice. If you hang your shirt on a hook, bend it over something, or do anything else to store it while you're not wearing it, it can develop indentations and lumps. This makes your shirt wrinkled and look bad temporarily, and it can permanently distort the shirt over time. Avoid Wrinkles While Sitting Sitting is one of the easiest ways to get your dress shirt wrinkled. Most men tend to pull their pants up when they sit down, which bunches the dress shirt above and below the belt life. Instead, keep tension in your shirt as you sit down and rub your back to see that there are no creases. Maintain good posture to avoid wrinkling the front of the shirt. Quick Fixes for Wrinkles No matter how hard you try to avoid getting your dress shirts wrinkled, every now and then it's bound to happen. Here are a couple of quick fixes to remove the occasional wrinkle and get your shirt looking great again. Use the dryer. Spray a little bit of water on your shirt, particularly in the areas that are very wrinkled. Put it in the dryer on tumble-dry, just until the wrinkles have worked themselves out, then press the shirt smooth with your hands and hang it. Use a shower. This is a great way to get rid of wrinkles anywhere that has a shower or even a sink. Just hang your dress shirt in the bathroom, close the doors, and turn off any ventilation system. Turn the water on very hot and let the steam work out the wrinkles. * You can also hang your dress shirt in the bathroom with you while you're taking a shower in the morning as a quick way to get rid of wrinkles before you get dressed. Enjoy Wrinkle-Free Shirts Quality wrinkle-free dress shirts are designed to resist wrinkles without compromising softness, fit, or style. These shirts can hold up to the washing machine, the dryer, and even being ironed if you really manage to work a wrinkle into them. However, these shirts don't wrinkle easily. Go through your day without worrying about wrinkles by wearing a dress shirt that always looks great. Learn moreCan You Iron Non-Iron Dress Shirts?
You shouldn’t have to iron non-iron dress shirts. After all, "non-iron" is right in the name. However, many men sometimes find that their non-iron button-down shirt does not quite live up to the name. After all, even the best-made cotton non-iron material can become wrinkled under the right circumstances. Here is what you need to know about ironing non-iron dress shirts, as well as what you can do to make sure you don't ever have to iron your button-down shirt. Are Non-Iron Dress Shirts Stiffer? When non-iron men's dress shirts first came out in the 1950s, many men hated them because they found them stiff and uncomfortable. This is because these shirts were treated with formaldehyde to bond strands of fiber, which made fabric stiffer and less likely to wrinkle. However, modern technology has made advances in non-iron dress shirts that enables them to resist wrinkles while staying soft and supple. Most Comfortable Stretchy Dress Shirts You Never Need To Iron: === split content === BALLER // Performance Black === split content === === split content === Non-Iron Black Skull Contrast === split content === === split content === CLOSER // Performance Blue === split content === === split content === Non-Iron Navy Rooftop Dobby === split content === How to Avoid Wrinkling Non-Iron Dress Shirts Ideally, you'll wash and care for your dress shirts in such a way that you won't ever need to iron them. It is much easier to care for non-iron dress shirts than worrying about ironing or dry cleaning your shirts. Choose a Great Shirt The first step to avoiding a wrinkled shirt is choosing the best possible wrinkle-free shirt. You will go through a lot of effort trying to keep a low-quality wrinkle-free shirt looking good. It's better to invest in a great shirt to start with, like Twillory’s best seller SafeCotton non-iron dress shirt, which is: Wrinkle resistant. Treated to make the material very resistant to wrinkling. Chemical-free. Cheaper dress shirts leave chemicals like formaldehyde in the shirt Safe to iron. Being resistant to wrinkles shouldn't mean that the shirt is too delicate to hold up to ironing. Safe to dry. Shirts that can hold up to tumble drying tend to be of a much higher quality than shirts that can't handle a drier. Use a Laundry Bag Keep your long sleeve dress shirts looking their best for longer by protecting them when you wash them. Laundry bags help shirts to avoid being crushed, wrinkled, and damaged in the wash. It could be especially helpful for protecting buttons and the stiffness of spread collars, point collars, and stretch collars over the years. This is a very easy and inexpensive way to prevent wrinkles in the wash phase no matter if it's a classic fit shirt, slim fit shirt, extra slim fit, or even big and tall! Button Up Your Clothes While Spin Drying High-quality non-iron dress shirts can handle being spun dry, but it helps them to maintain the integrity of collars, buttons, and sleeves if they are fully buttoned. It is best to button before the wash cycle so that you don't have to try to button wet clothes. Always be sure to also remove any cufflinks or collar stays before washing your dress shirt. Quality shirts will have removable, rather than built-in, collar stays. Short Tumble Dry Cycle Use a short tumble cycle, just enough to get out most of the water while maintaining enough moisture that the weight can stretch out wrinkles as the shirt dries. It can be a bit challenging to get this right, so check on your dress shirts as they're drying to make sure that you get them out while there's still a little bit of moisture in them. Letting your shirts dry completely may cause wrinkles to be baked into the fabric. Furthermore, taking this extra precaution will help your shirts to look great throughout the years. Use Wider Hangers You want the hangers that you use to as closely as possible mimic the shape of your shoulders. The hanger should go out to where the sleeve begins and should be broad enough to avoid creases developing where the shirt hangs unnaturally. Hang your shirt up as soon as it is mostly dry, with just a little bit of moisture left throughout the shirt. Use your hands to stretch and shake the shirt to get rid of any creases and cause it to hang naturally. Try to get the shirt to hang as much as it would on your own body as possible. Make sure that you leave enough room between hanging shirts for them to dry thoroughly. It’s best to choose somewhere with good air-flow. Considering using a fan if you must dry them indoors. Allow Shirts to Hang Freely in Storage It can be tempting to push shirts together in your closet, especially if you're using wide hangers that take up room. However, dress shirts that are pushed tightly together will almost certainly develop at least a couple of wrinkles if they are stored for any amount of time, regardless of whether they are made from non-iron fabric. Dedicate sufficient room to hanging each shirt and blazer or commit to ironing before wearing. How to Iron Non-Iron Dress Shirts If anything went wrong with one of the previous steps, or if your solid dress shirts have been wrinkled for any other reason, you may find it necessary to iron your non-iron shirts. The good news is that the same material that makes these shirts resist wrinkling makes them very easy to iron. Forget about the scalding temperatures necessary to flatten the wrinkles from old fashioned cotton dress shirts. Non-iron dress shirts only require gentle ironing at low to medium temperatures. In most cases, you only need to iron a few key areas that have become wrinkled. However, if you want a very crisp shirt, feel free to iron the whole shirt. Choose the Best Non-Iron Dress Shirts for Your Wardrobe If you want a dress shirt that will exceed your expectations in comfort, style, and wrinkle-free qualities, pick a company like Twillory that makes extremely high-quality menswear free of formaldehyde. You'll love how these cotton shirts feel and look. Wash, tumble dry, and even iron if you want a little bit of extra crispness for the perfect fit. Also, pay attention to the fit guide before buying your next oxford shirt for the perfect shirt fit. You'll appreciate the quality that keeps these shirts looking their best for longer. Here are some frequently asked questions to help you learn everything that you need to know about this multi-purpose, stylish dress shirt. Skull Collar & Cuff Accent Lined Dress Shirts A skull shirt is an innovative way to infuse a little bit of personality into your work wardrobe. At first glance, skull shirts look like any other dress shirt. You do not have to be goth or the grim reaper to wear skull shirts, they are great for anyone The collar lining and the lining inside of the cuffs have a playful pattern composed of little skulls and dots. The pattern is really only visible when the sleeves are rolled or folded up or if someone looks very closely at the neckline of the shirt. Sold out What is a Contrast Dress Shirt? The skull shirt is a contrast dress shirt. These shirts are designed to provide a professional outward appearance while allowing you to have a little bit of fun with them. The contrasting lining is almost invisible until you roll up your sleeves. This makes contrast shirts perfect for wearing from the office to after-work activities. Just by rolling up the sleeves, you can make these shirts look much less formal. What Colors do Skull Shirts Come in? Choose from white, black, and light blue exteriors. White exterior with navy blue lining and white skull print and dots. White exterior with baby blue lining and navy blue skull graphic and dots. Black exterior with black lining and white skulls and dots. Baby blue exterior with navy blue lining and white skulls and dots. How Do I Wear a Skull Shirt? Wearing a skull shirt is a lot of fun because of the distinct contrast. When you are in a formal or semi-formal work environment, keep the sleeves rolled down and wear your skull shirt the way you would any other collared shirt. When you are ready to dress your shirt dressed-down, perhaps when the work day is over or you are wearing the shirt to a less formal occasion, all you have to do is roll or fold the sleeves to reveal the fun skull pattern. You can just fold the cuffs to show the contrast at your wrist or roll the sleeves all the way up to your elbow. Buttons are in place to secure your shirt sleeve as needed. Skull shirts can also be great to break out on holidays like Mexican Day of the Dead ( Dia de los Muertos) to add a little festivity. What About Skull Shirt Accessories? Skull shirts come with beautiful brushed nickel collar stays, but is there anything else that you can accessorize your skull style with? Get playful with skull socks by Twillory. You won't find socks that are softer or more breathable, and you certainly won't find any that go better with your skull shirt than these perfectly matching skull accessorized socks. You can also accessorize with the short sleeve or long sleeve t-shirt or sleeveless tank top that you wear as an undershirt. The first thing to consider is the neckline. Both crew neck and v-neck are good options, it just depends on your preference. Next you will have to consider the style. You could allow the skulls on your dress shirt to steal the show by wearing a black t-shirt or white cotton t-shirt. If you are really wanting to spice things up you can wear a floral skull t-shirt, sugar skull t-shirt, tie-dye men's t-shirt, or even your favorite star wars shirt. Do Skull Shirts Wrinkle? Skull shirts by Twillory are made of an innovative non-iron fabric called SafeCotton. This fabric is the culmination of years of research into ways to avoid the pesky chore of ironing. Anti-wrinkle material was also essential because shirts tend to get very wrinkled in an office environment. This causes employees to look disheveled by the end of the day and when they need to go into meetings. For many years potentially dangerous chemicals like formaldehyde were used to create fabric that doesn't wrinkle. SafeCotton removes any harmful chemicals while simultaneously making a fabric that is resistant to wrinkles and irresistibly soft and smooth. What Size Skull Shirt Should I Buy? Skull shirts come in a variety of sizes and fits so that you can feel confident that you'll find the perfect skull shirt for your body. Neck size. Choose between sizes that go up every half-inch from 14.5in to 18in. To get your neck size, measure with a soft tape around the thickest part of your neck where the collar of your dress shirt would normally sit. If you are in doubt, go up to the next 1/2 inch size. You don't want your collar to be too tight when it is buttoned. Sleeve length. Sleeves come with a difference of 1in to account for the two cuff buttons. There are three sleeve lengths to choose from: 32-33, 34-35, and 36-37. To find your sleeve length, have a friend measure from the back of your neck to your wrist, following the contours of your shoulder and arm while your elbow is slightly bent. FitSkull shirts come in three separate styles to fit each man's unique shape. Choosing the right fit is essential to make sure that you have enough fabric but not too much over your torso, shoulders, and arms. Even if you get the other measurements right, your shirt won't look as good as possible unless you take care in choosing the fit. Traditional. This is the loosest fit, only tapering very slightly from the shoulders down to the waist. If you have a broader frame, especially through the torso and stomach, a traditional fit is probably right for you. Tailored or slim fit. A tailored fit offers a more streamlined appearance than the traditional cut. The shirt is tapered down from the shoulders to the waist, accentuating a triangular body shape. This shirt still leaves enough room in the arms that it is good for most men of athletic build. Extra trim. This cut is for men who want a more slender fit than the tailored skull shirt. A V line angle at the back helps to draw this shirt in quite snugly to fit a very slender man. This cut doesn't give much room in the arms, so if you are a slender-build but have thick arms, it may not be the best choice. How Do I Care for a Skull Shirt? All dress shirts deserve a level of respect in how you care for them, especially if they are high-quality shirts that did not come cheaply. Remember to take out collar stays if you are using them with your skull shirt. Once your shirt is free of collar stays, follow these instructions for caring for it. Machine wash. It's okay to machine wash your skull shirt, but you may choose to wash on cold only since the contrasting colors may have a tendency to fade if you use hot water often. If it has gotten particularly dirty, however, a warm wash cycle is okay. Don’t bleach. The contrasting colors of a skull shirt mean that bleach isn't a good idea. If you get a stain that is very difficult to remove on a white part of the shirt, you may consider using a spot bleach treatment if all else has failed. Dry clean. If you take the care of your shirts seriously, feel free to have your skull shirt dry-cleaned. This high-quality shirt will likely last many years as such treatment. Tumble dry. Feel free to tumble dry your skull shirt. Since skull shirts are resistant to wrinkles, you'll be able to take it straight out of the dryer, hang it up, and be ready to go. Try to use as little heat as possible to make your shirt last longer. Iron. There's no need to iron your skull shirt since it's resistant to wrinkles, but if you've managed to really work a crease into it, feel free to iron it. Why Choose a Skull Shirt? Many great dress shirts are available and trending, so why should a skull shirt be the one you choose? There are lots of great reasons to choose a skull dress shirt by Twillory. Here are just a few. Learn moreWhat To Wear Under Dress Shirt
Is a dress shirt sufficient on its own, or do you need to wear something under it? Depending on your dress shirt, the weather, and the occasion, you may or may not decide to wear something under a dress shirt. If you do decide that you need an undershirt, what to wear under a dress shirt is important. Best Dress Shirt Undershirt Undershirts have traditionally been worn underneath dress shirts, but why is this tradition still maintained today? There are a couple of good reasons to use an undershirt. Here are just a few. Protect Your Shirt The primary reason that most people wear an undershirt is in order to protect their dress shirt. Dress shirts can be fairly expensive investments, and wearing them all day long, most business days, can be hard on them. A dress shirt protects a shirt from oil or sweat from your skin, and also keeps the fabric from wear and tear by rubbing against the skin. Dress shirt fabric lasts much longer when it’s protected. Furthermore, wearing an undershirt helps to absorb sweat and prevent sweat stains before they become visible, saving you from unsightly sweat stains. Thorough Coverage A high-quality dress shirt should have fabric that is more to the opaque end of the spectrum, but if you have a lower-quality dress shirt or if your light colored dress shirts become wet, you may be able to see through it. It can be very embarrassing if somebody can see through your dress shirt to your nipples or chest hair, so it is a good idea to wear an undershirt if you’re worried that your shirt is not thick enough. Choosing an undershirt in light grey or one that matches your skin tone helps ensure the undershirt remains invisible. Warmth In icy weather, layering helps to stay warm. Wearing a cozy long-sleeved undershirt underneath your cool, crisp dress shirt can make you much more comfortable on the drive to work. A thick undershirt can also help to hold extra warmth when you need to leave the heated office throughout the day. A good undershirt makes a big difference during cooler days or cold weather. Why Not Wear an Undershirt? There are some very good reasons why you may not choose to wear an undershirt. Traditionally, undershirts were necessary to absorb sweat and to make your dress shirt look its best, but modern technology has made advances in modern dress shirts. Cooling technology and moisture-wicking properties mean undershirts aren't always necessary. Heat In a hot climate or warmer weather, an undershirt may be an extra layer of warmth that you would rather do away with. Moisture-wicking and hyper-breathable dress shirts like those made by Twillory can keep you cool and dry so that you don't need an undershirt to absorb sweat. In fact, these shirts are so good at what they do that an undershirt may just interfere with sweat management and make you hotter. These shirts are designed with such quality that they remain opaque, even in light colored dress shirts. A sweat-proof collar shield also protects your white shirt from underarm stains. Comfort High-quality modern dress shirts may be so comfortable that you’re sorry to put an undershirt between your shirt and skin. Unlike older dress shirts which were itchy and needed a layer, today’s shirts are made from soft, breathable fabrics that you’ll be happy to wear directly. Many men prefer the looser fit of a dress shirt over the snug fit of an undershirt. Tank Top or Full Undershirt? One of the first decisions when choosing an undershirt is between full varieties with sleeves and tank tops. For the most part, men tend to choose full undershirts rather than tank tops. This is due to being able to see the silhouette of the tank top through the dress shirt, and because tank tops don’t prevent sweat or absorb sweat as well, increasing the chance of visible sweat stains. What to Look for in an Undershirt If you've decided that you need to add an undershirt to your wardrobe, be careful as you consider what choices to make. Many men underestimate the importance of an undershirt and make unwise decisions that affect the look of their entire outfit. Don’t Wear a T-Shirt Many people assume wearing a T-shirt is the same as an undershirt. While a T-shirt can serve a similar purpose, it lacks the tight fit and sleekness required. A typical white T-shirt won’t lie flat, has excess fabric, and can show lines beneath your dress shirt. Instead, opt for the right undershirt—designed with a snug fit specifically for formal settings. Snug Fit One of the reasons that a T-shirt isn't a good choice for an undershirt is that undershirts should have a tighter fit than what you would normally choose for a T-shirt. This tight fit enables the undershirt to stay tucked in more easily since it is less likely to catch and move around your body. Furthermore, a tight fit makes for a lean silhouette and eliminates wrinkle lines when the dress shirt pushes against your body. Undershirts should taper from a comfortable fit at the shoulders that allows you free movement down to a tapered waist that eliminates excess fabric throughout. You should be able to see the contours of your back, chest, and torso under a properly fitted undershirt. It Shouldn't Show If you want to wear your button-up unbuttoned sometimes, such as when you are going out for drinks after work, you want your outfit to look good even with the top button or two undone. The undershirt that you choose should not show when you undo a button. For this reason, deep V-neck undershirts are often a better option for most men than crew neck undershirts. You should also not be able to see the silhouette or lines of your undershirt beneath your dress shirt. Carefully examine your silhouette before making your decision. Choosing the Right Color You should not be able to see the undershirt under your dress shirt, so why does it matter what color it is? Depending on how thick your dress shirt is, you may be able to see some shades of undershirt underneath more easily than others. A white t-shirt or white undershirt may be more visible under a light-colored or white dress shirt, but will work very well under a darker dress shirt. Light-colored dress shirts would benefit from a light gray or tan undershirt that helps to hide any contrast between your skin tone and/or chest hair and the dress shirt. As a rule, it's a good idea to pick a dress shirt that is as near to your skin tone as possible if wearing a white shirt. Sweat-Wicking and Cooling One of the primary goals of an undershirt is to wick away sweat to keep you cool and dry. Don't choose an undershirt unless it is equipped with the ability to get rid of moisture as quickly as possible. Undershirts made by Twillory have sweat-wicking and cooling technology, which makes this one of the most comfortable shirts available. Stays Tucked and Anti-ride Sleeves You want your undershirt to stay firmly in place. Choose an undershirt that is at the right length to stay tucked with without creating a lot of excess material for you to deal with. You should be able to lift your arms over your head without untucking your shirt. Anti-ride sleeves are also important to keep them from bunching up underneath your dress shirt sleeves. This can be an especially difficult problem if you have narrow sleeves. Affordability Expect to pay more for a high-quality undershirt than you would for a cheap packaged one, but don't be taken in to spend as much as you would for a dress shirt. Undershirts are designed to suffer the wear and tear that you want to save your dress shirt from. Therefore, they should come at a lesser price. Expect to pay around $20 or $25 for a quality dress shirt that will last you for a long time. Choose Quality Ultimately, a good undershirt is an unsung hero in a man’s wardrobe. Whatever kind of undershirt you decide to wear, be sure to choose an undershirt that offers very high quality. It can be very tempting to skimp on something that nobody will ever really see, but the decisions that you make about your undershirt affect everything about how your dress shirt looks. A quality undershirt will look and feel much better than a cheap alternative.
Learn moreHow Do Men's Dress Shirt Sizes Work
A dress shirt gives you instant style, and they are required in most professional business environments. Choosing the right dress shirt is essential to making sure that you look and feel your best. It isn't difficult to take your dress shirt measurements. It is, however, important to consider fit as well as measurements to ensure that you get a shirt you'll love. Here's how to measure your dress shirt size, and some considerations in choosing the right one for you. Dress Shirt Measurements There are two important measurements for off-the-rack dress shirts: Neck size and sleeve length. When the size is listed, the neck size is the first number and the sleeve length is the second number. For a measurement of 16.5 x 34, the neck is 16.5" and the sleeves are 34". Neck sizes generally increase by half inches. Every shirt has two sleeve measurements, depending on which buttons on the cuff you are using. Occasionally, chest or waist measurements are also given, but most manufacturers of quality dress shirts don't list the chest or waist size. Here is how to find your dress shirt measurements. *You will need a cloth tape measure at least long enough to measure the length of your arms. Check Out Our Most Comfortable Dress Shirts That Never Need Ironed: === split content ===BALLER // Performance Black=== split content ====== split content ===Non-Iron Black Skull Contrast=== split content ====== split content ===CLOSER // Performance Blue=== split content ====== split content ===Non-Iron Navy Rooftop Dobby=== split content === Neck Measurement Wrap the tape measure around the thickest part of your neck. This is generally where you wear a buttoned-up shirt collar. If you aren't quite at a ½ marker, move up to the next one on the measuring tape. You don't want your collar to be too tight when fully buttoned. Those who are very bothered by tight collars may want to go up a full inch, but remember that a collar that does not fit snugly may make you look disheveled. Furthermore, since the collar size also correlates with the size of the chest and overall fit of the shirt, an overly high estimate in the collar can result in a shirt that is too big through the body. Measure Your Arms Hang your arm at your side and bend it slightly at the elbow. It is best to have help measuring the arms, as it can be difficult to keep your arm positioned properly while using the other arm to measure. Have your helper place one end of the measuring tape at the very center back of your neck between your shoulder blades. Measure across the shoulder and down the arm length. Follow the curve of the arm and shoulder to account for the bends. Don't just draw a straight line from the neck to the wrist. Mark your endpoint at the end of the wrist bone, just below the base of your thumb, or wherever you prefer your sleeve lengths to end. Dress Shirt Types Body measurements aren’t all that matter when choosing the perfect dress shirt fit for your needs. Modern dress shirts are generally cut into one of three fits to accommodate different body types. Knowing which fit works for your body type is important in choosing the best cut for you. Tailored Tailored shirts offer a slim fit that gently tapers from the shoulders to the waist, accentuating the lines of your body. These shirts still offer room to move for athletically built men, but they aren't the best choice for the most solidly built guys. If you like a slimmer fit but worry that it'll be too tight for your build, consider a tailored shirt that offers a dynamic 4-way stretch like those made by Twillory. Such shirts offer a lean fit while still providing a lot of flexibility so that you'll be comfortable whether you are active or sitting for long periods. Tailored shirts that are made entirely from cotton or another less flexible material may be uncomfortable for any but the most slender men. Extra Trim Men with slender builds and men who are quite tall often benefit from an extra trim cut. These shirts are cut to be fairly tight, especially in the elbow and wrist. Men with thicker arms or a broader build will probably not be comfortable in an extra trim, but men that often feel like their dress shirts are hanging on them even when they order smaller sizes will find this fit to be perfect. Like with the tailored cut, it may be well worth your while to invest in a shirt that has a dynamic stretch to make the fit more comfortable for you as you move around. Traditional or Classic Fit Traditional dress shirts have some taper from the shoulders to the waist, but the taper is much less dramatic than with either the tailored or the extra trim cut. This is a better choice for a man with a broader build from the shoulders down to the waist. Traditional fit dress shirts also tend to give more fabric on the arms and around the elbows than other cuts, which make them a good pick for men with thick arms. Picking the Right Shirt for You The right dress shirt for one man won't be the right for another, even if the size and fit is the same. You need to pick a shirt that fits your needs, whether you'll mostly be wearing your dress shirts for long days of work or are picking the perfect shirt for an important meeting. For some men, wearing a shirt from the office to after-work drinks is important. Here are some features that you can keep in mind as you are shopping for a shirt that will meet your needs. Wrinkle-free. A shirt that looks great right out of the closet doesn't just save you time when you're getting ready in the morning. Wrinkle-free dress shirts look great all day, allowing you to go from sitting at your desk to performing in a meeting seamlessly. Moisture-wicking. You'll be more comfortable throughout your day if your dress shirt stays cool and dry. Dress shirts that effectively wick moisture can enable you to go without an undershirt, which is cooler and more comfortable. If you'd like to avoid the embarrassment of wet stains, go with a moisture wicking dress shirt. Breathable. Breathable shirts are more comfortable, and they help you to adjust more easily between temperatures, which can be essential when you are moving from a cool office to a hot outdoors climate or from the cold outdoors to a heated office. Adjusting your temperature more quickly keeps you more comfortable. Collar ring shield. A collar shield can protect collars from dirt and sweat stains. This is especially important for white and other lightly colored shirts. It also helps to give a shirt a look of substance and quality. Extras. A high-quality dress shirt may also include an extra gift to make your shirt look its best, like these shirts by Twillory that come with brushed nickel collar stays. Quality, attractive, removable collar stays like these are a valuable addition and a much better option than built-in collar stays offered by lower-quality shirts. Personal style. Just because you're wearing a dress shirt doesn't mean that you can't express some style. Dress shirts with contrast like this skull contrast shirt look professional with the sleeves rolled down. However, they offer a fun skull pattern contrast in the color shield and the sleeve lining when the sleeves are rolled up. Choose Quality Whatever size dress shirt you decide on and whatever style and fit works best for you, make sure that quality is the first qualification. A quality dress shirt will make you look your best and earn you respect in your workplace. Furthermore, dress shirts of high-quality are much more comfortable and durable over the years. You'll keep loving your well-fitted dress shirt for a long time to come, provided you measure carefully, follow the size chart, and make a high-quality choice. Learn moreHow to Tuck in a Dress Shirt: 5 Pro Tips
You’ve probably been tucking your dress shirt in since you were a kid, but that doesn't mean that your technique is perfect. If you find that your shirt comes untucked at inopportune times, like right as you stand up to deliver a meeting, here’s what you need to know about how to tuck in your dress shirt so that it stays tucked. History of Tucking in Shirts Tucking in shirts is surprisingly important in men's fashion. Men who tuck their shirts in at work tend to earn more money than men who don’t. They also tend to be happier and have more optimism for their future. How did shirt tucking become so important in our culture? In the very earliest days of their history, shirts also served as underwear. Shirts had long shirttails that protected the outer clothing from the body. They came to the knees and were tucked up between your legs before you put on your pants. Shirts actually didn’t lose their purpose of being underwear until the second half of the 19th century. As time went on, shirts turned into outerwear, but the custom of keeping shirts tucked in remained. In time, people who kept their shirt tucked developed a reputation for being more on top of things than those who didn’t. 1. Choose the Right Shirt Shirts with uneven hems that have tails in the front and the back are designed to be tucked in. Sometimes, button down shirts that have a short hem all around the waist are meant to be tucked in as well. A wrinkle-free shirt makes it much less likely that your shirt will show having been tucked and untucked throughout the day. Make Sure Your Shirt Is Long Enough If your shirt length is too short, you won’t be able to tuck it in properly. It’s also more likely to become untucked over the course of your day and evolve into the dreaded half tuck. Your shirt should have enough extra fabric to reach at least 3 inches below your belt line. If your shirt has an uneven hem, the shortest parts should still reach at least an inch below your belt line. 3. Don’t Get Twisted When your shirt is tucked in properly, the buttons on the shirt should line up with your belt buckle, which should also line up with the buttons of your pants. It can be difficult to fix your shirt if it gets a bit twisted, so be careful to keep the alignment in mind as you are tucking in your shirt. 4. Watch for Excess Fabric If you tuck in your shirt and notice that there is a bulge or bunching where your shirt is tucked intoyour pants no matter how carefully you distribute the material, this may be a sign that the shirt fit isn't right for you. You can choose a different shirt or have a tailor add darts in the back for a slimmer fit. 5. Pants That Grip the Shirt and a Belt Not everything regarding keeping your shirt tucked in is about the shirt. It is very important to choose the right pants as well. Pants that are equipped with a shirt-gripping waistband like the Performance pants by Twillory can do a lot to keep your shirt in place. Regardless of whether or not you need a belt in order to keep your pants up, it is helpful to use one in order to keep your shirt tucked in. Tightening a belt is an extra layer of protection in order to ensure that your shirt remains firmly in place. Methods for Tucking in Your Shirt Tucking your shirt in is pretty straightforward, but that doesn't mean that there isn't some skill involved. Most of us have tucked in our shirts since we were kids being yelled at by our parents during formal occasions, but that doesn't mean that we've mastered the skills to make our shirts look sleek and attractive when we tuck them in. Here are some methods for tucking in your shirt. Take into account whether you typically wear an undershirt or not and just how secure you need the shirt to be and you are sure to find a way that works well for you. Straightforward Tuck This is the tuck that you probably learned when you were a little kid, hurrying to get dressed for a formal occasion. It isn’t the best way to tuck your shirt into your pants, but it does form the standard for more advanced techniques so it’s worth learning if you don’t already know it. Unzip and pull down your pants Tuck your shirt into your pants Pull your pants back up Close the zipper and button While easy, this technique has a few shortcomings. Shirts may be more likely to untuck on their own when tucked in this way, especially if you bend over or stretch. Shirts can balloon out unattractively as well. Therefore, even though this technique is simple and likely what you're used to, it's worth checking out some other options. Military This way of tucking in your shirt is often used as part of the military dress code. It adds a few more steps to the Straightforward Tuck to create a way of tucking your shirt into your pants that is less likely to come untucked or bulge out. Start with your pants unbuttoned Tuck in your shirt and close the zipper, leaving the button open Spread your legs evenly to keep your pants from falling down Pinch towards the back of your waistline to collect any fabric from the side seams Fold fabric simultaneously to create a neat pleat on either side of the hip in your midsection Fasten the buckle and even out creases or folds This technique creates a very clean and uniform appearance. Since the fabric is pleated on the side, it has extra resistance to coming loose compared to the Straightforward Tuck. This is especially true when you bend over or stretch your arms back. This is a great technique to utilize since most people already know a Straightforward Tuck and this only requires a couple of extra steps. Layer Tuck If you really want to ensure that your shirt doesn't come untucked, the Layer Tuck is a good choice. This is the perfect tuck for you if you usually wear an undershirt with your dress shirt. This method relies on tucking each item of your clothing into the layer below in order to keep everything in place Tuck your undershirt into your underwear. Take care that the undershirt is evenly tucked all around. Tuck your dress shirt into your pants. Use a Straightforward Tuck since the Military Tuck requires that you pinch and may pinch the undershirt. Fasten your buckle and enjoy a secure tuck. This is a great tuck for anyone who wears undershirts because it keeps your dress shirt and your undershirt from interfering with one another and makes it much more difficult for your shirt to come untucked. Shirt Stays Shirt stays may not be well-known, but they may be used more often than you realize. This simple device serves double-duty by keeping your socks up and your shirt tucked. If you really don't want to worry about keeping your shirt tucked in, shirt stays can do the trick. These are a great choice for anyone who moves around a lot while wearing a dress shirt or for times when it is essential that your shirt stays tucked, like when you are wearing a tucked-in shirt on stage. Clip shirt stays from the back of your shirt to the back of your socks Clip shirt stay from the front of your shirt to the front of your socks Adjust the shirt stays until you have a comfortable, secure fit Whether you want to dance the night away without worrying about your shirt coming untucked or you have a speech to give on stage and you want to keep your shirt tucked in to be the last thing on your mind, shirt stays are a very effective tool for keeping dress shirts tucked no matter what. What If You Don’t Want to Tuck It in? Sometimes you want a little bit of the formality of a dress shirt in your everyday wear, but you don't want to tuck it in. An untuckable shirt is perfect for a night out or going to a nice dinner. It is cut so that it will look great when untucked and worn with a pair of jeans and tennis shoes. How to Tuck in a Dress Shirt? If you've been wondering how to tuck in a dress shirt, it is a good idea to try a few techniques and practice until you know exactly what works for you. Tucking in your dress shirt properly can be important, and it's not as difficult as you may have thought. Picking a high-quality shirt that is designed to be tucked in and pants that are designed to help keep your shirt tucked in, like those designed by Twillory, is a great way to set you up for success in a dress shirt and pants that look great and stay in place. Learn moreHow Should a Dress Shirt Fit Properly?
How should a dress shirt fit? It can be difficult at times to make sure that you are looking your best in a professional environment. There are a lot of options available in the dress shirt arena, but not all of them are designed to make you look your best. Here's what you need to know about how a dress shirt should fit and how you can choose one that is sure to give you a fresh and classy look. Does Your Dress Shirt Look Too Baggy Or Too Tight? You may have to wear a dress shirt to work, but who said you have to work to make sure your shirt looks perfect? Shopping for a dress shirt that fits you well may not be the most fun activity for your off-time, but having dress shirts that fit you well is very important for your professional image. By not paying attention to how your shirt fits, you may give others the wrong impression that you are: Unprofessional or indifferent about your job Immature or unable to deal with concerns of everyday life Insecure about your appearance or unwilling to make an effort You could take the time to convince your fellow employees that their impression based on your clothing is inaccurate, but it might be easier to just go buy a dress shirt that fits you well. Achieving a fresh and classy look that will make a great impression on your colleagues and friends may not be as difficult as you think. Sold out Sold out Sold out Sold out Choosing the Right Fit for You Many men wear dress shirts that are a couple of sizes too big for them. Buying shirts large is a good way to ensure that they'll be comfortable, and may make it easier to get your shopping done. Unfortunately, it isn't a good way to make sure you're looking your best. If you take the time to choose the right fit for your dress shirt, you will be able to build many great outfits from that shirt for a long time to come. Rather than choosing a non-fitted shirt that is too big for you, consider how a quality dress shirt should fit you and carefully make a decision that offers a flattering look. Shoulders Strong shoulders can help you to seem more confident. A shirt that doesn’t fit you correctly in the shoulders tends to make it look like the shirt is too big for you. Without the right cut in the shoulders, shoulders are underemphasized, making you seem unsure. A shirt that is poorly cut in the shoulders will make the entire shirt seem too big. The sleeve should attach to the body of the shirt right at the top of the shoulders with a solid shoulder seam. Cheaper men's dress shirts tend to be cut large so that they'll be able to fit a broader amount of people comfortably. If you want to look your best, you should choose a dress shirt that hangs correctly at the shoulders. You'll know that the shoulder fit is too small if the seam between where the upper arm meets the shoulder is riding up closer towards the neck. Neck You can measure a dress shirt collar size by laying a dress shirt down flat and using a ruler to measure in inches from buttonhole to button. Most shirts fall between 14 and 18 inches. When you button the collar fully, you should be able to fit two fingers in between your neck and the collar of the shirt. Collar fit and size are only really important if you are going to be wearing your dress shirt with a tie or buttoning the top button. Most of the time if you'll be wearing the dress shirt in a professional context, like with a suit jacket or blazer, you'll want the ability to button it all the way up comfortably. Chest You want your dress shirt to have a proper fit around the chest and provide some definition, but you definitely don't want it to be too tight to move your body comfortably or so tight that it conforms to your ribcage. A good torso fit means that there is enough room under the armpit for you to move your arms freely. A well-fitted chest will also give you a complete range of motion when you flex your arms. It shouldn’t feel too tight on the back and there shouldn't be any pinching. You should be able to discern the chest under the shirt so that it appears that the shirt is filled out, but it should not conform to the lines of your chest. A good rule of thumb is that if you're standing still with your arms down and there's any pull in the buttons, the shirt may be too tight in the chest. Arms Just like shoulders, armholes are often cut larger in cheaper dress shirts in order to accommodate as many people’s body types as possible. However, there should not be fabric hanging under your arm. The armhole should be loose enough to give you a comfortable range of motion but tight enough that it is contoured to the lines of your arm and doesn't hang loosely. A good fit in the armhole will translate to how the shirt sits across the chest and back as well. If the armholes are too small they’ll keep your arms from moving freely and you'll notice tightening in the chest and back as well. When the armholes are too loose, there may be little motion in the shirt across the chest and back. Sleeve lengths should taper to follow your arms without lots of fabric hanging from your arm when held out straight in front of you. When you button the shirt cuff, the end of the sleeve should fall at the base of the thumb, although there is a little bit of wiggle room depending on what sleeve fit you want. In general, sleeve cuffs should never hang below your arm, but they should also be loose enough that you have a free range of motion. You don't want your shirt sleeves to be too short, and the perfect fit for shirt sleeve length goes right to your wrist bone. Abdomen Dress shirts ought to taper from the chest all the way down to the waist. The shape of your body should be emphasized, but the shirt should still fit loosely enough for you to move around freely, and it should not be tight against the contours of your body. You should be able to twist your body around without feeling any tension in the shirt. A shirt should hang long enough that it can easily stay tucked in, but not so long that there is lots of excess fabric. A shirt that is untucked and unbuttoned should have a tail that falls just past the back pocket of your pants. When the shirt is buttoned and tucked in, you should be able to raise your arms over your head without your shirt coming out of your pants.
